Keeping a Tribal system moving through COVID

A nine-clinic Northern California Tribal health system grew revenue while extending care and building a regional testing partnership.

The situation

The system served 20,000 patients across multiple tribal nations and two counties. The operating challenge included the COVID pandemic.

My role, and the people behind the work

I served as Chief Executive Officer and reported to a 32-member Board.

The work sat within Tribal governance and a nine-clinic care team. The regional testing effort was a partnership across the Tribal system and two counties.

What changed

  • Brought local OB/GYN, podiatry, and pediatric practices into the Tribal health system.
  • Established a regional COVID testing partnership across two counties and the Tribal system.

The results

  • System revenue increased 30% through COVID.
  • Kept-visit rates increased 30%, cancellations decreased 38%, and no-shows decreased 5%.
